Paper Valentine - Brenna Yovanoff Actual Rating: 3.5 StarsThings I liked:• Fluid writing that was so effortless I didn't even think about it. I just read.• Perfect dialogue. Just perfect.• Yovanoff seems to have an innate ability to find the haunted aspects of anything, and although I'm not easily spooked, I could enjoy the imagery.• The intricacies of Lillian's character and how they overshadow Hannah's. It was a fascinating dynamic to explore.Things I wasn't such a fan of:• The entire murder aspect. Not only were the clues a bit contrived, but it was just never really mysterious. I spotted the foreshadowing a mile away, and Yovanoff's choice in culprit was so, so disappointing. Really? We're going with this cliché again? Sigh.• For all the effort she put into Lillian, Hannah, and a handful of other characters, she still allowed antagonists to have no redeeming qualities. The murderer alone I could have dealt with, but letting Hannah's frienemy Angelie be little more than your scorned mean girl? Bah, I say.All in all, probably a good airport book, but I can't say Paper Valentine didn't disappoint.
